The Finest Saffron

An expression of nature, refined by selection.

The Collection

The House of Khan an ingredient worthy of extraordinary care.

Saffron begins with a remarkable flower. Each Crocus sativus produces just three crimson stigmas, gathered during a brief harvest and carefully dried to reveal the spice's distinctive aroma, colour and character.

For KHAN, however, the harvest is only the beginning.

1600 BC

The First Portrait of Saffron

Around 1600 BCE, saffron gathering was depicted in the extraordinary Bronze Age wall paintings of Akrotiri, on Santorini. These are among the earliest surviving visual records of saffron gathering.

In The Saffron Gatherers, young figures place the crimson stigmas into baskets; nearby, flowers with long, dark-red stigmas rising above their petals mark the domesticated Crocus sativus.

Quality The Art of Selection

Every thread begins with a careful choice. We consider the integrity of the stigma, its colour, aroma and condition. Through attentive handling and controlled storage, our aim is to preserve the qualities that make saffron such a distinctive ingredient.

Culinary Aroma

At the Table aroma, colour, ritual

Obtained from the delicate stigmas of Crocus sativus, a flower cultivated for its remarkable character. Carefully harvested and dried, its crimson threads reveal a distinctive aroma and impart a golden hue to culinary creations. At KHAN, we devote our attention to the selection and preservation of this singular spice.
